Re: [NTLK] Moving away from MP2K internal charging

The battery holder is just a sled - a plastic tray for the batteries,
and is missing a couple of parts wich the rechargeable battery pack
has. The battery pack has a couple of extra electrical contacts on it's
bottom - without these, the newton will know that there is no
rechargeable battery pack - and won't recharge anything in the battery
slot. IF these contacts are present, the newton will charge the
battery, and uses these contacts to monitor the temperature of the
battery pack - allowing it to know when the battery pack is charged,
and to know when to stop without overcharging the battery pack.

If you want to recharge batteries inside the newton you need either A)
the original rechargeable battery pack. or B) a modified battery sled
(add the contacts and circuitry required to make the newton charge
whatever is in the sled or C) to replace the batteries inside the
original battery pack with new ones.

So it can be done - but you need an original rechargeable battery pack
to start with.
