Googling "How to Solder" yields a veritable cornucopia of information,

There are other photos on the net as well to help you see what the
others on the list have been describing very succinctly. Basic soldering
can be very easy if you follow the simple advice previously mentioned.
The only thing I would add is that you should try to minimise the time
you spend heating the wire/pad with the soldering iron. With practise a
joint can be made in only a few seconds - just enough time to heat the
wire/pad to the required temperature and flow the solder on. Overheating
a wire results in damage to the insulation, but this usually takes
noticably longer than the length of time taken to create a good solder
joint.

PS Electronic Hobby stores have simple kitsets that provide a rewarding
way to practice the craft.
