Gaudo,

The web link that Chris had posted is misleading. The MP 100, 110, 120, 130, 2000, and the eMate) do not have enough "processing horsepower" OR memory to handle the converted .mp3/.pkg files. The MadMax .mp3/.pkg music player ONLY works with the MP 2100.

I've begged Eckhart(sp?) to continue development of this fine piece of software so that it would allow music playback on earlier model Newts. He's either working on bigger projects, or the adaptation to earlier Newton devices is not an easy task. Probably a bit of both.

There IS a cheap workaround of a sort, but it's not the greatest fix. This involves using the Newton microphone and one of the long-play audio note recording apps (There are several apps out there, but I can't recall them by name). Anyway, this would at least allow you to play back rough recordings on just about any Newton device (recorded audio notes could be beamed to the eMate from an MP). It's crude, but it does not sound bad, once you get the hang of setting the recording levels. I used this cheap fix to record some of the Live 8 concert performances (viewable from AOL) onto my Newton. I also recorded myself singing and banging out some cool acoustic blues/rock stuff on an antique classical guitar. Those long-playing audio note recording apps have lots of applications...

One other cool program we've been discussing a bit on the board lately is "VoiceAlarm". This neat little app lets one make a brief audio recording which can then be entered into the preferences/sounds area of the Newton. The new recording can then be used like any other sound for universal purposes (wake-up, alarms, warnings, etc.) I'm trying to decide whether "Voodoo Child" or "Ride of the Valkarie" would be better for a wake-up tune in the morning. I also have to snag a few more sound samples from old television shows...
