The LIBRIe runs a modified version of Linux. There are a fair amount
of Linux fans who have been working with/modifying the software used
with it: mainly to defeat the incredibly horrible DRM system it uses
and allow it to read files in other formats than the one Sony created.
Take a look at <http://www.sven.de/librie/Librie/SoftWare> and
<http://www.mynetcologne.de/~nc-bergme2/librie.htm> for starters.
