The reason therefore might be a sort of undefined state due to slow
discharge of the accu or battery below the absolute minimum. Somehow the
power switch of the Newton does not seem to be recognized neither =
applied
power is. I also tried to discover the true reason for this bad =
behaviour by
measurements of the super cap voltage but found nothing really =
believable
nor worth to be published. And I did not spend time to reconstruct this
state by leaving my Newtons underpowered :-)

What I did sucessfully in that state with some of my Newtons was to =
press
the reset button with stylus and hold the power switch in on position
WITHOUT ANY SOURCE OF POWER connected to the Newton. I don't remember =
for
how long, but it was long enough to get stiff finge muscles ;-) so at =
least
one minute or more is certainly sufficient.=20

Finally I connected e.g. AC power only and had normally to wait several
seconds until the restart happened. This is probably due to the fact =
that
the charging current into the super cap is limited and it takes its time =
to
fill it up above the absolute minimum level.=20
