Methinks your XP box is too fast... and therefore you are having
issues connecting to the Newton because the XP box is sending a serial
signal, and not waiting long enough for a reply. You can either
underclock it in BIOS but that probably won't get you down far enough.
 Try looking for software to slow it down...

I don't know why NCU 2.0 doesn't install however. Reinstall Windows,
that usually fixes most issues ;-)
