Hi,

I was surprised to note that you have a 160G hard drive running in your
PM G4 DA because, as far as I know, pre-MDDs are unable to read drives
beyond 128G, i.e. even if you install a 300G drive into a pre-MDD G4,
it will only recognize the hard drive as a 128G. There is some talk of
Quicksilvers (2002) [but not 2001s] running Jaguar (not OS 9, 10.1,
10.3 or 10.4) being capable of fully utilizing drives larger than 128G.
The only way a pre-MDD G4 can fully utilize internal hard drives bigger
than 128G is to have an ATA-133 PCI card installed. 'Externalizing'
hard drives, i.e. placing them in external enclosures with firewire
connection, will also allow hard drives exceeding 128G to be fully
recognized.

As such I hope that you can clarify certain aspects:

1) Is your 160G hard drive internal or external?

2) If internal, is your PM G4 DA capable of recognizing the 160G hard
drive as having the full capacity of 160G, e.g. on the system profiler,
or only as 128G?

3) Does your G4 carry a ATA-133 PCI card?

4) Which version of OS is your G4 running on?

BTW, congratulations for purchasing for your PM G4 DA at such an
excellent price!

James
