Newton PC People,

Thanks for the many tips on curing Windows PC boot-up issues. It turned out that something had been changed in the BIOS settings when I had opened the desktop case to connect a secondary ribbon cable for the 5.25" floppy drive. After swapping back to the original "A" drive, I experienced continual rebooting of the system and it would only run in 'Safe Mode" (Which of course, does not allow for using USB peripheral devices and so forth). It seemed a real mess. I tried holding dow the F8 key and the "Delete" key, to see if there was a way to return to defalt settings. I did a bunch of stuff within the BIOS area, but it did NOT fix the problem!

The real problem was that it was not easy to spot the issue by selecting "Delete" during start-up. However, when the system was booted up in "Safe Mode", I right-clicked on the "Bios" (e.g. "My Computer") and looked into the properties settings.

Somehow, I got into the settings for the original "A" floppy drive: "Hmmm.. There sees to be two different settings in here for the floppy drive. I wonder what would happen if I changed the floppy to this other setting?" A complete stab in the dark on my part, but hey, that' exactly what the problem was. Saved myself money (that I don't have anyway) by avoiding having to visit the repair shop. Yay!

Now, I think I'll tempt fate and play around with the Newton script stuff within Dashboard. It's just like that time I disassembled an old Schwinn rear bicycle hub and watched all of the ball bearings roll across the floor when the cone bearings were loosened. Sometimes, ya gotta learn by doing, I guess. :O)

Thanks again!!!
