Thanks, Frank. And thanks to everyone else who have posted answers so far.

I knew about the cheat. That's what I meant by slightly adjusting my pen's
alignment. Unfortunately, it only worked (more or less) for the top part of
the screen. The outcome of it is that as I get to the bottom, and as I move
to the left lower corner, the misalignment gets so bad that no compensation
is sufficient. The difference between where I tap and where the tap takes
effect runs from about 2 mm at the top to about 6 mm at the bottom right,
but the lower left corner suddenly increases so that the far left button
("Extras") is inaccessable altogether.

Of course, the problem is worsened because in the alignment procedure, the
test "X" at lower right has very little room to manoeuvre beneath it. Since
at the bottom, the pen starts out needing to be tapped about 6 mm below
where I want it to register, I just couldn't get it to adjust even with
multiple alignments as you described. (I tried doing it 4 or 5 times
without useful results.)

This is looking really bad for me. I'm finding it so bad trying to work
without the things in "Extras".

AFAICS, the consensus is that my MP needs to have the digitizer replaced.
That means either I have to send Newt off to someone who knows how to
dismantle Newtie and replace the digitizer, or I need to do it myself.

Normally I'd be happy to jump in there and have a go at it myself, but if I
screw up it means I'm de-Newted -- a fate worse than death. OTOH, the
repair places seem to be in the USA, and I'm in the UK.

SO, is there anyone who does Newton repairs, either here in the UK or more
generally in Europe? I figure it's worth it to me to pay someone and put my
Green Buddy in good hands, if it means I end up with a safe and happy Newt.
In due time I'll aim to buy a knackered Newton and practice on it, but for
now I need my muse!

TIA for help.

Shalom.
Christian
