The PB1400 does not support the IRDA protocol. However, if you can get
the appropriate serial cable, the PB1400 works as an excellent
companion to the Newton, using NCU.

You need a Messagepad 2x00 dongle with a Mac printer cable to connect
the two, or...

I ordered a Newton to DB-9 PC cable from J&K Sales, and have used a
DB-9 to Mac serial port adapter to connect this cable to the PB1400
printer/modem port.

The dongle and Newton to PC serial cables are listed as for sale at:

I had the DB-9 to Mac adapter from syncing a Handspring Visor.
