I haven't had much call to use a PDA in the fashion you outlined
here. I tried to use my Newt for taking notes and that never turned
out very well. I've never understood the need for a keyboard bigger
than the device. The iPhone does offer a whole lot of "no's" though
as you said:
No problem connecting wi-fi -- WEP, WPA or otherwise.
No difficulty using bluetooth.
No difficulty connecting to IMAP or POP servers using SSL.
No trouble browsing the web with that latest invention -- images.
Renders heavy java pages too. ( http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1205/717252091_de77195a91_b.jpg
)
No issues opening Word documents, same with PDFs whether emailed or
via the Web.
No need to worry about a stylus, I have ten of them built-in.
No storage problems with plenty onboard to hold my music at bitrates
that are actually listenable.
No sync issues with Address Book, Entourage, or otherwise, it
dutifully copied all that information over with nary a complaint or
hack required. I spent a couple of hours trying to get that to work
with my Newt, my iPhone did it in on connect.
I believe the first three no's are all things that have been brought
up as significant issues on the list in the past few days.
I admire the chutzpah of the folks in this group that have worked and
patched and got the Newt to go far beyond its intended potential but
I'm afraid to say mine is gathering dust in a drawer now since the
little friend that fits in my pocket came on the scene.
