I don't think that these resets are to be expected. Unfortunately the
eMate will report pressing of the power button as a loss of power and
I think other system resets are reported as loss of power.
One of the reasons that a Newton may reset itself is exceeding the
system memory.

I see Ron responded specifically to your question but these tips may
be useful to you or others.
Try freezing the ATA driver and see if it works better.
