[NTLK] MessagePad 100

Hi all:

Just to let everyone know, I got a brand new MessagePad 100 today, although there were a few things missing from the box, but that is another issue I won't get into.

While I can see the limitations with it compared to our grandaddy 2000/2100s, I do like it, and am going to use it this week for business. I love the rubbery screen and the sort of golden appearance it has. The form factor is also better than the 2000/2100, and the slip case is awesome.

Testing the write recognition, all seems pretty good (running 1.3). From what I understand though, unless a word is in the dictionary, it will NOT recognize it. If I am not mistaken, this is not entirely how Newton OS 2.x treats recognition: if the word is not in the dictionary, it simply constructs the word from its on the fly letter by letter recognition? I will have to play with this but if anyone can provide some tips and more info on the differences in the write recognition engine that would be great.

Anyway, I really like this unit: they did an excellent job. A backlight would be good, but the screen is more readable in light than the 2000/2100 so...
