Honestly, what many have found on here to be a good solution is simple, but of course has its own set of (manageable) issues.

Find an older Mac running pre-OS X software—OS 9, for example—on eBay and purchase it.

Such Macs are usually inexpensive, but if you have not used a Mac before there is bound to be a small learning curve.

This option reliably eliminates running slowdown software, and its problems.
