even not in the UK, except you have a modified Newton.

I assume you mean that you can't use a Mac as host computer but you
have to stick to a Wintel-box. Or do you mean the telephone outlet? Even
if so it is much simpler to strap the two modem wires and connect them
to whatever you have on your wall. You should once watch me how I creep
under hotel beds, unmount the cover and connect my two modem wires!
Swiss Army Knife and may be Screwdriver are required, no soldering
necessary ;-)
