I think synchronizing of text files is not what is really needed. How
would you define it? Should every small change in a text file be
replaced in the target? That would require the immense power of reading
all text files, analyzing them and then replace the changed parts. You
should may be limit yourself to transmission of text files from or to
the Newton and be happy if this works.

Synchronizing of names or dates makes more sense, because dates are
identified by a unique ID #. Every change in every ID# can easily
detected by the date of modification and thus only the changed items
move over and replace the target entry with all consequences (One has to
decide who wins in the case of conflict, so when the same entry has been
changed on both ends). These items are rather small and have a defined
content, allowing rules for automatic synchronisation.
