OK, I'm jumping into the fray now, but only on this point.
Tha vast, vast majority of CD-ROM drives out there suck really bad at
extracting digital audio from audio CDs. Often they will skip blocks and
interpolate over read errors without even giving an error. I burn lots of
audio CDs, and whenever I rip I use a UNIX utility called cdparanoia. I
suggest you read the cdparanoia FAQ for lots more information on why
CD-ROM drives suck at this, and why cdparanoia is much closer to making an
exact copy than other utilites that just trust that the CD-ROM drive is
giving the right data.
