In fact, I thought about this idea too. Something like a screen protector
foil but mounted into a hole of the lid. However, the simpler solution is to
use a milling machine and machine the hinge part (that one which breaks
often) out of aluminium. Then with a few small threaded holes everyone can
attach whatever he or she wants, a clear, translucent or solid piece as
lid.
