Hi Darl,

Evidently, you are correct. I am on SR-2, but on the Microsoft web site,
there is a conversion pack for Word 97
(http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/downloadDetails/Convpack.htm) that
installs converters not normally installed with the product out of the box.
This is an enhancement pack to add a number of converters for Word,
including the "Recover Text From Any File" option, which is not included in
the standard install. I'm downloading the patch even as I write this.

Thanks for the help, guys! I never would have found this without the
"heads-up". I appreciate you sticking with it! This will help a lot!

Regards,

Gary

Gary:
Win 98
Office 97 (patch 2 - could this be the difference?)

File-Open- Files of Type - Recover Text From Any File

No worries at all with an NPI (Newton Press) file, nor with a .pkg from a
book I made -
just needed to scroll down 3 pages to get past the control scripts :-)

May be worth looking further into...

Best Regards
-D
