The only batteries I've used were bought new this morning. So, I'm going
to do step 1 and 4

Yes. I was entering a multi-day event, and when I closed the panel with
the 'x' button, the unit shut down. It was flat on my desk, and I only
used the stylus, trying hard not to press too hard on the screen.

Nope. Nothing. Even shook it a bit *shudder*. Even jiggled it side to
side, which is how I'd assume the battery tray contact would be lost.
So, just handling it doesn't seem to do this, but entering stuff via the
stylus does? Hrmm...
It's running OS 2.1(717260)-1 I know there's a later patch to fix
a Dates/find bug, but that seems unrelated ( I get this behavior in
various places, not just Dates )
