From the description you're providing, it looks like something is corrupted
in the package soup. Try SBM Utilities <http://www.sbm.nu/>. It has a backup
module and also a "doctor" module. Try to see if you can backup to your card
using SBM Utilities. You could also run the doctor utilities to see if it
can detect something. But I'm really afraid that something is corrupted.
