Unfortunately I never saved the page, but Metricom Ricochet had info on
how to use 2 Ricochet modems as a peer-to-peer wireless network.

No subscription needed, no other hardware needed.

Does anyone have the writeup, as after I remembered this, Metricom's
site is pretty stripped.

As these modems will drop precipitously in price (hopefully not, but it
don't look good), this could be a good Airport alternative, at least to
access data on one computer...
