Although I agree with most of the above, I disagree that classic totally
relies on X for driver support. My Epson Stylus Color 800 with a network
card does work fine under classic but didn't under X until recently.
There's no official X driver for that model, yet it does work under
classic using the Epson drivers for pre X MacOSes.
Having said that, I can now print to that printer under X with mixed
results using a hacked up version of Ghostscript and the uniprint driver.
I think a generally correct statement as far as NCU, Appletalk and OS X
is concerned would be to say that OS X has some support for Appletalk,
enough for NCU to be able to use Appletalk over Ethernet under classic.
