G'day Newtoneers

Ok so I'm browsing through my eMate service manual (*.pdf) and under the
SPECIFICATIONS > MEMORY heading it states
 *RAM - 512k on logic board, 512k or 1MB flash on logic board
ROM 8MB*....and here's the bit that got my attention............

*Expandable to 16MB ROM and 16MB flash on ROM daughter card* ??

So what gives ?
(I already have the RAM expansion card that gives me 3972k of System RAM
btw.)
Does anybody have an explanation or am I just missing something totally
obvious.
Was this something that was just never made ?

Also it has a section on diagnostic tools being available on a Card,
testing Logic Board/RAM/ROM/LCD/Keyboard/Battery
Did any of these ever become publicly available or solely for Apple Tech
usage ?
