Re: [NTLK] GhostScript (linux) printing with a Newton?

If you have a postscript printer that's got a LocalTalk port, like an HP
LaserJet 4SI, or if you add a JetDirect card that gives you LocalTalk
capabilities, you can just plug directly into the LocalTalk port with a
"mac serial cable" and print away. Quality is as good as the printer
supports.

(I mention the HP stuff because that's what we use here in my
workgroup; we recently upgraded from the LaserJet 4Si to an HP LaserJet
4100 DTN, and it was $109 to add the LocalTalk port to the 4050.)

You may also have luck exporting your documents from the Newton to your
desktop machine. It's like this that I "print stuff from Works" at home
to my Epson printer... I export the document that I'd like to print from
the Newt to the iMac and then print from my desktop machine.

The third option is to put your Newt on a network with a Postscript
printer that speaks Appletalk. (I used to have an old PhoneNet network
and a LaserWriter II NTX; later, I did this with our networked
laserprinter and an ethernet card in my Newt.)

In any event, you choose Print from the routing slip and you will be able
to select the printer from a popup list.

I'll be happy to provide more details if you'd like more info on any of
these methods.
