GOOD NEWS on the "abandonware" front:

Brant Sears, the original programmer of Clarity, got back to me after I
asked him about the software some 14 days ago. He has had the time to
remove the registration requirement from "Clarity!" The new version is v.
1.2.1b

Well, what is Clarity?

Clarity is a specialized database/spreadsheet app for teachers to keep
track of classes, students, assignments, grades, etc. but also allows fo
the integration of notes, syllabi, and much more. For a teacher (even at
the university level) this is a classy piece of software. Unfortunately it
has no export function built in (only print). Clarity is OS 2.1 only and
works on the eMate 300 and the MP2x00.

This new version has no added functionality to the 1.1 version. If you have
a registered version of Clarity, there is no need to upload 1.2.1b. The
only purpose of this new version is to unlock Clarity. Version 1.2.1b does
not update any previous versions of Clarity, but rather you have to delete
any previous version of Clarity from your MessagePad 2x00 or eMate before
you can use this unlocked version. Note: Any data/soups established with
version 1.1 seem to be accessible with version 1.2.1b.

The new version of Clarity is, for the moment, the pkg only. It does NOT
contain the manual (which is available on UNNA in v. 1.0 as an RTF file).
Brant is working on putting the software, the old manual (now in PDF form),
plus an updated ReadMe file on his webpage. As soon as this new archive is
available I'll let y'all know.

There seems to be little use for people who are NOT in a teaching position
to download this software. Sure, it is nice to play with, but what would
you use it for, really???

So, for the time being this announcement should suffice - wait a couple of
days and you will be able to download it.

Otto

PS: Brant was even thinking about making the source code available, but
there seem to be some rather complicated/unresolved copyright ownership
issues for parts of the code. If news come up on that front I'll make
another announcement.
