That's like claiming that there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll: the "pre-release 1M" version to the MP2100 was called the MessagePad 2000. There are three North American variants of the MP2x00 series released for sale:
MP2000: the original one with rubbery paint, shaped Apple logo and 1 MB DRAM
upgraded MP2000: what you got when you sent in your MP2000 to be upgraded by Apple back in October 1997 (I did this - one of the worst 4 day sequences of my life)
MP2100: different paint, "Newton Technology" silkscreened onto the top left of the case, and a round logo button with an Apple sticker logo.
I have all three models. Does your eBay vendor really want to stick to his story?
