NewtonTalk always has been an unmoderated list. I don't set rules for
discussion, I don't have to approve posts before they go out to all 1185
subscribed addresses. Very occasionally I will make suggestions that
perhaps some discussions should be taken offline, but that's about the
extent of it. In the years that I've been on this list, I find that it
has a very mature membership that does self-moderation very well, most of
the time. I have seen and used to administer some much more chaotic
online discussion groups.
The idea for marking [OT] posts is a good one though - I'll try to
remember to add that to the Welcome message new subscribers get.
