Re: [NTLK] Bad *pen* recognition

I had the same problem with my first (new) 2100. The display reacted
more and more chaotic every month I used it. I tried everything -
even completely disassembled the unit several times without luck. As
I got my second (used) 2100 I bought as replacement it was very easy
to see that the old touch screen was defective. The foil (where you
write on) was very close to the glass plane. You could alway see
"Newton-rings" - like negatives on a scanner plate - on some areas of
the display. When you tip with the stylus on it you could hardly see
any movement towards the glass. The "new" Newton is completely
different. It seems that the foil is now about half a mm away from
the glass - no "Newton rings" - and is very elastic. I think the old
display was not worn out - no scratches at all. I used it always with
great care and I am not a "power user" - only a few minutes every
day. So I think it came this way from Apple.

Hopefully your Newton can be repaired with some of the simple
solutions available.
