Your dongle has *two* LEDs? The only dongles and cables I've ever seen
for 3c589 series cards have only one LED, which indicates link. If your
dongle has two LEDs, then it is probably the wrong dongle. Especially if
the lights are labelled 10 and 100 respectively, then you've got the
dongle from a 10/100 card mixed up with your 3c589, which is only 10Mbps,
and they simply will not work together.

If you need a new dongle/cable, they can usually be purchased directly
from 3Com for not too much ($5-$10 I believe).
