[NTLK] various eMate hardware questions

Hi everybody,

a while ago, my eMate=B4s keyboard stopped working - when I press keys
randomly, sometimes I can provoke a reaction. The eMate says "There=B4s
nothing to print", "There=B4s nothing to undo" etc. - when I=B4m lucky, some
letters do appear. The power and light keys do also not work.
This is not a good thing, because the eMate does not have a button bar - I
cannot use any packages, just the backdrop application - the device is
rendered virtually useless. At least I could do a backup on a card, so my
data is safe.
Anyway, today I felt adventurous and pried the beast open. I had a look at
everything and loosened and refastened every connector on the motherboard.
Then I discovered I could remove the keyboard without separating the two
halves of the case. I had a look at that, too - there are two flat
connectors to the motherboard (which I had previously disconnected and
reconnected). The wires seem to be OK, as far as I can see.
Unfortunately, I could not get the keyboard to work - on the other hand, I
am proud of me because the eMate does still power up after my crude tour of
its contents.

So, can anyone answer one (or more :) ) of the following questions:

- Is it a motherboard or a keyboard problem?

- If it is a keyboard problem, can I get one at a reasonable price - or,
preferrably, does anyone have a broken eMate with a working keyboard (or
just a working eMate keyboard) he or she is willing to part with?

-What are those "mystery keys" - between the first row of keys on the eMate
keyboard, there are some translucent separators, and there=B4s a big
translucent cover on the right of the return key. Underneath these
separators, there are buttons, just like with the keys you are supposed to
use. Do they have any function? I cannot find out what they might do
because, as I mentioned before, my keyboard ceased to work :(

Thanks in advance for any information that might help!
