Actually, I believe this is one of the tactics pilots are instructed on.
Because (I think) if they flip a valve, there's no sudden WHOOSH to signal
the decompression. At some point the pressure drop triggers the O2 masks to
drop in the cabin. If this accompanied by a sharp maneuver, the bad guys
are on their asses (possibly on the ceiling :-) ), and in any event will be
focused on reaching a source of O2. If the maneuvering (remember,
passengers are supposed to keep belted while seated...) keeps them off their
feet for even a few seconds, their brain power begins to fade and the
hijacking is over.
