First of all: The capacity display might not be correct. I don't believe
that the Newton tracks accu charge by means of a real measured charge. That
would mean measurement of current and voltage of the accu over time and
integration to get a number for the consumed energy (W=P*t or =U*I*t). Since
the Newton can't track which accu is inserted, nor does the accu have its
own microcontroller as the SONY LIP cells have, it guestimates the remaining
charge from the accu voltage. It uses a table which is a record of accu
voltage during a discharge process with defined and constant discharge
current. If your accu cells getting worn the discharge curve might only go
quicker down to 40% but it may stay quite long at this level.
