[NTLK] GV Platinum modem card reports "There is a problem with this card..."

I'm trying to get a PowerPort PC Platinum V34 PCMCIA card to work with my Newton. First I downloaded and installed the PowerPort Platinum enabler from http://www.easter-eggs.com/newton/modem.html . Then I modified the modem settings to select the PowerPort driver. When I insert the card, my Newton reports "There is a problem with this card (This memory card could not be formatted. (This memory card is write protected.))"

Any ideas or suggestions?
