No, I used the supplied cables:

One is a 2.5mm stereo jack plug to a female 9pin D connector (for the PC).

The other is a male 9pin D to Mac DIN serial - these are also easily
available from most vendors if you do not have one.

Just assemble the two cables together and you have the right setup for the
Mac and the Newt.
