I've had a Zaurus for a few months now and moved my Newton PIM data over
to it. Previously I had basically the same software running on my iPaq.
The main disadvantage of the Zaurus over the Newton is not only the lack
of cursive handwriting recognition software but the fact that the whole OS
is not pen-centric. You can't treat your screen like a piece of paper.
Even with all the pen-centric OS stuff aside, the PIM application (Qtopia)
is not at the maturity level of the Newton. But there are "tons" of
network applications such as a web browser, email client and the fact that
you can run pretty much most Linux applications assuming they fit into the
storage space.
The Newton-OS still has the others beat, however. If only Apple would
update the product...
