...Has anyone tried something like "Goo Gone" to remove the sticky stuff?
Does
it adversely affect the "grippy" surface?...
-------------------------

I've had good luck using "De-Solv-it", which is a citrus oil/mineral
oil/lanolin based solvent - not sure about "Goo-Gone". The company claims
that the stuff is "organic", but that means one thing to a chemist and
means something else when describing food products...and this product isn't
food so they are stating the obvious, although I think they are using the
term as if it were a food product.

Anyway, be careful when purchasing Goo-Gone and like products because some
marketing techniques use similar names which can confuse you - like
"Goof-Off" which contains xylene...nasty effects with many plastics! Always
read the label to make sure it is safe for plastic, and for additional
protection (if you are not sure of the ingredients and their compatibility
with particular plastics) ask a chemist for assistance. Mark Ross (on this
list) is a polymer chemist, and has provided sound advice in the past.

I like the advice of rubbing the adhesive off with your fingers, and would
recommend trying it first. It will usually "ball up" and then you can flick
it at your partner just for fun. ;-)
