Heh.
In fact, here the doc is wrong. If there is no password, the password is "".
What you send back to the Newton is the challenge encrypted with the
key (based on the password).

Indeed. Intel is little endian and Motorola is big endian.
Nowadays, most processors can work in both modes (so do the PowerPC I guess).
Apple always chose big endian, including with Motorola processors
(where it's the usual case) and ARM (where it's not the usual case).
