Isn't that more a function of people thinking 4WD means they can drive on
anything? Years ago I got hit by a Jeep Cherokee sliding down an ice
covered hill by some youngster (18-20). It was a descending curve and she
had ample chance to allow it to go onto the nice knobbly shoulder and the
grass beyond, where she would've found traction. But, NO, she had to keep
steering back onto the sheet of ice every time her wheels hit the side and
got a bit of traction. And all she could say afterward was, "I don't
understand! I had it in 4-wheel-drive!" I was actually quite restrained
and didn't scream out "It don't matter how many wheels you have if they're
all slipping!" I think drivers of cars with traction control often suffer
from the same thing.
