If the output voltage is in a range of 6 to 7 V and stabilised, the
cigarrette lighter power adapter should work. Be careful with the polarity.
What I usually do is to measure the output of the adaptor before I connect
it to my Newt.
It would be best if the current is limited to 1 Amp max., but the data you
will find for cigarrette lighter power adaptors are very vague. So the
current limitation might be a simple fuse, what is of course not sufficient
to protect your Newt from too high currents.
But the problem with current limitation you will have only in case you want
to charge the Newt batteries using the cigarrette lighter adapter.
If you have Avis Backdrop you can easily use the battery status display to
find out if your voltage and current is fine - both are displayed.
This gives you the possibility to vary the voltage setting of the adapter
and to check the charging current (fine tuning to get the optimum setting).
But be very very careful!
