Have you ever done any transferring of information between Mac apps, like
between address books or databases? If so, then moving info to the Newton is
no different with NCU. When you go to import information, you will have the
opportunity to map fields, so field order is not so important. Also, if you
will start the import operation, even before you have a file, I believe you
will be able to find out what file types you can import in the Open file
dialog.
In my experience, I learn a lot more and faster by experimenting and making
mistakes. I've never made a mistake with importing information that
destroyed anything that I couldn't fix by deleting the resulting import. The
only thing I recommend is backing up right before you do any importing. It
may be simpler to simply restore the soup you mucked up. :-) I cannot stress
enough that you should back up. In fact, first of all, remove the old NCU
backup from the Backups folder before you do your first backup, then, hide
those files and back up again just to be sure. :-) Once you do that,
experiment to your heart's content. It's pretty intuitive once you start--at
least if you've ever done this sort of thing before.
If you want some specific help after playing, please feel free to write me
off list. I'm not an expert, but I'm willing to try helping. :-) What model
of Mac do you have, and what OS. I'm running a Pismo PowerBook under 9.2.2,
and have no experience with that imposter called OS X. ;-)
