So either the card is defective (unlikely, it's a ROM card
that most likely has hardly been used) or your MP
has a problem. If the connector of the card looks ok, I
guess you will have to open the MP. Might sense anyway
to check if some of what leaked from the battery is now
inside the Newton.

Not if it doesn't have a battery of course. Basically
it can do the same and more, but entry of longer texts
will probably be slower. It doesn't have backlight.

You can, the url above is for a holder for standard AAA
size batteries.
