Hum, this is interesting. Why should the modem be used in the bottom slot?
Is the same true for other comm. cards like ethernet?

Also make sure in the modem prefs that you have chosen the slot that your
modem is in or the Newt could be sending modem commands to a memory card
(and it certainly wouldn't respond properly).
