I am currently running OS 10.1 on a powerbook G4 with 512 MB of ram, and
it's pretty fast and stable. I used to run it on a B/W G3/350 with
256+64 MB ram and the speed was pretty decent and very stable, it's not
close to anything u described (ridiculous).
