Well, I currently have no need, ATT/Roadrunner was nice enough to bundle
limited uunet dialup access into my broadband plan. However, at the end of
this month that changes. So why UUnet makes sense to me:
-some folks with T3 or T1 at work, or broadband of some sort at home, don't
NEED unlimited PPP dialup.
-if Comcast doesn't do the same UUnet contract as ATT did, in a month or
so, I'll be looking for a dialup POP for occasional use, and $10/month
once-in-a-while-as-I-need-it sounds a lot better than a 1 yr contract with
MSN for $20+/month. Heck depending on what my new job is, I can deduct it
:)
-UUNet is what many others resell for their global solution, apparantly, so
why not just get it straight from the source? Keep track of your Earthlink
hours; 150/month is 5 hrs per day average. For most users, 150 hours would
be just about the same as unlimited use; they would not come close to 5
hrs/day average online time. On the household phone line, as well (got
multiple lines? you're spending as much or more than broadband...).
-Personally, I'd pay $2/month more to bypass MSN, if I needed more than 10
hrs/month. I do not like MSoft's business practices and avoid that company
when I can.
No one is forcing you to use it :) but it seems perfect for the way I use
my Newton, and likely for others as well. And despite earlier assertations
to the contrary, the service does exist!
