Try looking in the AppleTalk control panel on the Mac. Make sure that it
is on, and set to use the correct port (modem or printer). I assume you
have Newton Connection Utilities on the Mac... if not, download it from
unna.org. Make sure that it is set (in the preferences) to listen for
the eMate on AppleTalk. Hope this helps...

PS- Once you install the driver for your ethernet card on the eMate, you
will have to open it's AppleTalk control panel (in Prefs) and set it to
use ethernet, as well as using the AppleTalk control panel on the Mac to
select EtherTalk,
