I've got a G4-400 AGP PowerMac and just received my MP2000U off of eBay.
Unit's in excellent condition and I'm liking it already (former Palm
user...was hoping the iWalk was true, and when that didn't pan out, went
searching for a MessagePad).
Anyway: I'm running OS X and heard that the NCU works fine under Classic. My
first attempts failed. Becoming anxious (the MP wouldn't do me any good if I
couldn't communication with my desktop), I started experimenting. Here's
what I found out.
My Palm USB-Serial adapter was connected to the port on my keyboard. The
Palm worked fine through here and so did a serial transfer program for my
HAM radio using VirtualPC. However, I couldn't get the MessagePad to work. I
was getting ready to reboot into OS 9 and try it, when I decided to move the
USB-Serial adapter from the keyboard and plug it into my 4-port PCI USB
board instead. SCORE! Everything worked like a champ!
For whatever reason, the NCU wouldn't recognize the MP when the USB-Serial
adapter was plugged into the keyboard port, but worked fine when plugged in
directly to the primary ports. So now I've got my MP communicating with the
NCU in OS X.....WAY COOL!
