I think the answer to the problem is that the eMate does not have a
built-in microphone. You have to use an audio adapter with an
external microphone in the interconnect port, as the eMate also does
not have audio-in.
As an answer to your earlier question, the text-to-speech prefs can
be found in the inbox. macintalk.pkg and speaktext.pkg have to be
installed, of course.
