I don't think you really need to bother. The wording seems fine to me,
quite inoffensive. It's not like a newbie can't come on the list and ask a
question -- after all, part of the learning process is in what search terms
on Google or the list archive to use, and the FAQ really packs a lot of
stuff into it, making things easy to miss for someone who may not
necessarily be sure of what it is they're looking for. Maybe it comes from
being married to a teacher, but one of the fun things on this list (and
others) is helping folks learn to problem solve and rapidly become
contributing members of our community.
