One of the neatest that I used, was a trackball system.
It was built into the desk. I belive the trackball was somewhere around
the size of a volleyball. The open part that you used, was about 3
inches across. The ball itself, protruded very little from the desk and
was more of a slightly curved surface vice your typical trackballs used
today.
Of course it took up a lot of space.
It was so easy to use, and spin if you wanted. Very smooth.
We were using it with a CAD system on a PDP-11 linked with a VAX 11/70.
Did some work on Shuttle designs. Very interesting.
Apple's optical mouse works very well.
The Newt has a nice feel to it as well. A nice integration between the
input device (pen) and the software and hardware.
...still, I wish that I had that large trackball to spin across the
screen. It was a hoot to do.
